About this Talk
In today’s VUCA environment, Innovation, Agility, Resilience, Lethality, and Safety are often treated as disparate organizational problems to be solved by multiple “Design” methods. These design methods can include Design Thinking, JOPP, MDMP, SOD, ADM, Safety Differently and Safety II, Human and Organizational Performance, Scrum, Resilience Engineering, Operational Excellence, Kanban, Lean, Agile, Six Sigma, DevOps, and a growing family of rigid and useless Agile frameworks.
At the end of the day, the above design methods can be easily described as flow systems. In fact, according to a first principle of physics, everything that moves is a flow system. And flow systems have two features: the current that is flowing (for example, information, value, mass and a virus such as COVID-19) and the design through which it flows.
In this talk that was shared at the 2020 Innovation Methodologies for Defense Challenges Conference, Brian “Ponch” Rivera, CEO of AGLX Consulting and co-creator of The Flow System™, will share some basic ideas of flow and design along with some insights about the OODA loop.
Topics may include: Red Teaming, Sense-Making, Psychological Safety, the Cynefin framework, Team Science, Mission Command, narrative, and more.
